Male Infertility

Male Infertility

The evaluation of an infertile man should always be performed by an urologist specialised in andrology.

The causes of male infertility are analysed under three headings:

  • Hormonal disorders
  • Testicular problems
  • Problems related to sperm transport in the ducts or to disorders of the male reproductive organs

Hormonal Disorders

This group of disorders is related to the hormones secreted by the hypothalamus and pituitary glands in the brain, which stimulate the reproductive organs in men.

Testicular Problems

Causes related to the testicles include sperm production disorders and blockage of the ducts in the testicle.

Problems of Sperm Carrier Ducts and Organs

Congenital or acquired obstructions in the ducts or organs that allow sperm to be expelled from the testicles can prevent sperm from reaching the ejaculate (semen).
